Bloomsburg Remains Alive at PSAC Softball Championships
Game One
Game Two
LOCK HAVEN--The Bloomsburg University softball team remained alive with two wins on day two of the 2008 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships at Lock Haven on Friday. The Huskies beat East Stroudsburg, 1-0, then came back and knocked off IUP, 6-0.
In game one Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) tossed a three-hit shutout and struck out 11 to lead Bloomsburg to the victory. The only run in the game came in the fifth when Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) singled with one out and was replaced by pinch-runner Casey Massimini (Downingtown/Downingtown). After out number two, Massimini stole second and then scored on a single by Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport).
East Stroudsburg threatened to score in the bottom of the seventh, but the Huskies cut down a runner at home who got caught off third. Lynn then retired the final batter to end the game.
Reed finished the game 2-3 with the one RBI for Bloomsburg.
In the nightcap, pitcher Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) tossed a three-hit shutout to lead Bloomsburg to the victory. Fisher was strong throughout and did not allow a batter to reach third base in the game.
The Huskies got all the offense it would need in the first inning when Mandy Koch (Dauphin/Central Dauphin) slammed a two-run homer and Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) followed with a solo shot to put Bloomsburg on top 3-0. After two runs in the fourth made it 5-0, the Huskies got their sixth run in the fifth inning when Massimini had an RBI single.
Bloomsburg, now 47-8, will play Kutztown on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Huskies need to beat the Golden Bears and also win two games from Lock Haven to claim the PSAC title.
